Amazon testing humanoid robots to deliver packages

According to The Information, Amazon is developing AI software that will enable robots to work as package delivery workers, with real-world testing set to begin soon at a new facility.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • The company is almost finished constructing an indoor "humanoid park" in San Francisco, where robots will be trained to navigate obstacle courses and perform delivery tasks.

  • Various humanoid robots will be tested at the facility, including a $16,000 unit from China-based Unitree.

  • The plan is to eventually have these robots “hitch a ride” in the back of Amazon’s electric Rivian vans and spring out to deliver packages.

  • The report follows Amazon’s launch of a new agentic AI team to help develop technologies that will power robots operating in Amazon's distribution and logistics hubs.

Here’s what I think:

While the company has not officially confirmed the project, it aligns with Amazon's previous efforts, such as the acquisition of the robotaxi company Zoox in 2020 and the Prime Air service, which uses drones to deliver small parcels. All of these suggest a desire to fully automate end-to-end package delivery from the warehouse to your front door.

ByteDance’s new video AI climbs leaderboards

ByteDance just releasedSeedance 1.0’, a new video generation model that ranks first on benchmarks for both text-to-video and image-to-video tasks, outperforming SOTA options from Google, Kuaishou, and OpenAI.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Seedance 1.0 moves to the top of the Artificial Analysis video leaderboards, moving ahead of top models including Veo 3, Kling 2.0, and Sora.

  • The model generates 5-second, 1080p videos in 40 under a minute, with multi-shot storytelling, character consistency, and smooth transitions.

  • Bytedance also createdSeedVideoBench’, a benchmark that shows its model ahead of competitors in motion quality, prompt adherence, and aesthetics.

  • The company plans to fold Seedance into its Doubao chatbot and video platform Jimeng later this year.

Here’s what I think:

Despite its impressiveness, Veo 3, it’s already been surpassed on the leaderboard, with Chinese labs continuing to push the frontier for AI video models. But with Google’s Veo 3 viral audio capabilities setting a new expectation for consumers, it makes it hard to go back to still “silent” models.

Kalshi’s AI ad runs during NBA finals

Prediction market Kalshi aired one of the first instances of an AI-generated commercial during Game 3 of the NBA Finals, running an “unhinged” 30-second spot created with clips using Google's Veo 3 video model on ABC.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • AI filmmaker PJ Accetturo created the ad in just 2 days, using 300-400 Veo 3 generations to create 15 clips.

  • He detailed his workflow in a post on X, using Gemini and ChatGPT to help with ideation, script creation, and craft prompts for each shot.

  • The commercial leveraged Veo 3's new speaking capabilities, though Accetturo noted challenges with unexpected subtitles and inconsistent character voices.

  • Accetturo estimated the cost to be about 95% less than traditional production and said that “high-dopamine Veo 3 videos will be the ad trend of 2025.

Here’s what I think:

This feels like a major moment for AI in advertising on a big-time stage. While its unpolished, chaotic aesthetic won’t work for every brand, the time and cost element will be hard to resist for many advertisers. The “style” is also unlikely to be an issue for long, with video models only getting better with each new release.

OpenAI & Mattel partner on AI toys

OpenAI and Mattel just announced a new strategic partnership to create AI-powered toys and experiences, bringing the tech to franchise brands like Barbie, Hot Wheels, American Girl, and more.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • The collaboration will integrate OpenAI's tech into Mattel's product development, with the first AI-powered product expected later this year.

  • The deal covers physical toys and digital experiences across Mattel's portfolio, featuring hundreds of iconic brands and game titles.

  • Mattel employees will also gain access to ChatGPT Enterprise to enhance creative ideation and streamline business operations across the company.

  • Both companies emphasized safety and age-appropriate design, with Mattel maintaining full control over its IP and final products.

Here’s what I think:

Toys are about to get a lot more personalized and intelligent with an AI infusion, bringing new interactive capabilities like never before. But having children interact with AI in any fashion is likely to ruffle some feathers and raise questions about development, privacy, and whether the tech belongs in the playroom.

Prompts of the week

Continuous problem solving system

Prompt: You are to use the Continuous Problem Solving System (CPSS) to provide an informed and thoughtful solution to my question through continuous iterations. The CPSS system works as follows: 1. You will use a 6-step problem solving process to evaluate my initial question: 1. Identify the problem, 2. Define the goal, 3. Generate solutions (maximum of 3), 4. Evaluate and select a solution, 5. Implementing the solution, 6. Next Questions. 2. The "Generate solutions" step should list a maximum of 3 solutions. The "Evaluate and select a solution" step should provide a concise and specific solution based on the solutions generated. The "Implementing the solution" step should provide specific ways to put the chosen solution into action. 3. The Next Questions section should display the most relevant question to ask me in order to gain additional information needed to continue the problem solving process, with a maximum of 3 questions. 4. Your responses should be concise and written in Markdown format, with each step name in bold, and all text including the labels having consistent font size. 5. The next iteration of the CPSS process will begin after you provide an answer to my initial question. 6. The system will integrate my latest answer and provide a more informed answer with each iteration, which you will initiate by asking me new questions. Your first response should only be a greeting and to state that you are a Continuous Problem Solving System (CPSS). Do not start your first response with the CPSS process. Your first response will only be a greeting and a request for a question or a problem to solve. I will then provide you with information. Your following response will begin the CPSS process.”

Case study generator

Prompt: I am interested in [specify the area of interest or skill you want to develop] and its application in the business world. Can you provide a selection of case studies from different companies where this knowledge has been applied successfully? These case studies should include a brief overview, the challenges faced, the solutions implemented, and the outcomes achieved. This will help me understand how these concepts work in practice, offering new ideas and insights that I can consider applying to my own business.”
