OpenAI launches GPT-5 to all ChatGPT users

OpenAI has finally launched its flagship GPT-5 models, replacing GPT‑4o, 4.1, 4.5, o3, o4-mini, and marking a new age of intelligence that is smarter, faster, and accessible to everyone.
Here’s what you need to know:
The model family includes three variants — GPT-5, GPT-5 Pro, and GPT-5 Mini— with GPT-5 coming to free users under usage limits (higher limits for Plus and unlimited for Pro users).
Based on the task, GPT-5 switches thinking on/off using a real-time router.
The Pro version, coming to Pro users on $200/month plan, thinks longer with scaled parallel test-time compute to provide the most comprehensive answers.
The smaller GPT-5 Mini, meanwhile, comes into play only when free and Plus users hit rate limits, ensuring the rest of their queries are handled.
OpenAI also says these models hallucinate less, are less deceptive, and communicate with honesty when they can or can not handle a task.
Here’s what I think:
OpenAI’s move to replace its flurry of models with a unified GPT-5 simplifies user experience and gives everyone a PhD-level assistant, bringing elite problem-solving to the masses. The only question now is how long it can hold its edge in this fast-moving AI race, with Anthropic, Google, and Chinese giants all catching up.
xAI’s Grok gets video generator feature, with a "Spicy Mode"

xAI is officially rolling out ‘Grok Imagine’ — its new AI image and video generator — to all SuperGrok and Premium+ X subscribers on its iOS app, entering a space dominated by Google, OpenAI, Runway, and China’s viral generators.
Here’s what you need to know:
The model can generate images in seconds and continues auto-generating new ones as you scroll. These can then be turned into videos, or you can upload your own images to use instead.
The videos are 15 seconds long and feature native audio. They’re also generated much faster than other tools.
It includes a “Spicy Mode” that allows users to generate sexually explicit content, including partial nudity (although there are limits to how explicit it can get).
In terms of quality, the videos generated by Imagine look more “AI-generated” as compared to other video models, delivering cinematic outputs.
Elon Musk said the model “should get better every day” while emphasizing that it makes videos in 1/2 to 1/4 the time rivals take to make a single image.
Here’s what I think:
While Grok Imagine doesn’t appear to outperform other top video generators on the market, xAI is aiming to offer a fresh take on video generation with its playful and unfiltered style.
Google launches ‘Guide Learning’ mode for students

As OpenAI courts federal agencies with $1 licenses, Google is pushing into the education sector with a new ‘Guided Learning’ mode for Gemini and free access to its $250/month AI Pro Plan for college students.
Here’s what you need to know:
Following ChatGPT’s ‘Study Mode’, Gemini’s ‘Guided Learning’ acts as a learning partner, offering step-by-step guidance instead of giving direct answers.
Google has worked with educators and learning experts to ensure the AI helps students work through problems, building their critical thinking skills.
The mode also includes tools that use images, videos, and interactive quizzes to help students test their knowledge as they learn new concepts.
Google is making its AI Pro Plan free for students in select countries, including the U.S., and investing $1B over 3 years for AI training at U.S. colleges.
Here’s what I think:
Amid concerns that AI may hurt the learning process with direct answers — both Google and OpenAI are now repositioning their AI tools with study tutor features designed to build, not bypass, critical thinking.
ElevenLabs rolls out ‘AI Music Generator’ for commercial use

ElevenLabs, known for its AI voice tools, just launched a new service called ‘Eleven Music’ that lets individuals and businesses generate their own music with its AI model.
Here’s what you need to know:
The company says the music made with this tool is cleared for commercial use, meaning you can use it in your projects without worrying about copyright issues.
The AI model generates a tune within minutes, complete with vocals and instrumentals.
The company shared some very impressive samples that cover different genres like hip-hop and indie rock, as well as orchestral-style tracks and songs in multiple languages, that sound almost indistinguishable from real music.
It also announced deals with Merlin Network and Kobalt Music Group, two digital publishing platforms for independent musicians, to use their materials for AI training.
Here’s what I think:
This is a big step for ElevenLabs, which had mostly focused on text-to-speech and language tools until now and is now betting big on AI music - a space that already has no shortage of competition from tools like Suno and Udio.
Google unveils ‘Genie 3’ interactive world model

Google DeepMind just announced ‘Genie 3’, a new general-purpose world model that can generate interactive environments in real-time from a single text prompt, complete with surrounding and character consistency.
Here’s what you need to know:
With Genie 3, users can generate unique, 720p environments with real-world physics and explore them in real-time, with new visuals emerging at 24fps.
The model’s visual memory goes up to one minute, enabling it to simulate the next scene while ensuring consistency with the previous ones.
To achieve this level of controllability, Google says, Genie computes relevant information from past trajectories multiple times per second.
It also allows users to change the worlds as they go by inserting new characters, objects, or changing the environment dynamics entirely.
Here’s what I think:
Genie 3’s consistent worlds, generated frame-by-frame in response to user action, isn’t just a leap for gaming and entertainment. They lay the foundation for scalable training of embodied AI, where machines can tackle “what if” scenarios — such as a path vanishing — by adapting in real-time, just like humans.

Prompt of the week
Analyze complex topics
Prompt: "Act as a research analyst and identify the top three most significant developments in [insert field] from the past 90 days (from [start date] to [today’s date]). For each development, provide a concise summary of what happened, name the key players or institutions involved, and explain the potential second-order effects for professionals in the field (such as policymakers, investors, startup operators, or researchers). Include at least one credible source or citation for each development. Emphasize clarity, relevance, and why each event matters in the broader context of the field’s evolution. Your output should be structured, insightful, and actionable.”
Persuasive Marketing Email
Prompt: "Write a persuasive and engaging marketing email targeted at [recipient, e.g., a prospective client] that promotes [product or service] in a way that speaks directly to their specific goals, challenges, or industry needs. The email should begin with a strong hook to capture attention, followed by a clear and compelling explanation of the product’s most valuable features and benefits—especially those that solve a known problem or deliver a meaningful improvement. Incorporate social proof, success metrics, or real-world use cases if relevant, and maintain a tone that is confident, professional, and customer-centric throughout. Conclude the email with a clear, actionable, and motivating call to action that encourages the recipient to take the next step — such as booking a demo, starting a free trial, or scheduling a call.”
Turn passion into action
Prompt: "You are my creative project planner. I have a passion project I care deeply about but haven’t started. Help me break it down into simple, non-intimidating steps. Start by asking a few questions to understand what the project is, why it matters to me, and what’s been stopping me. Then map out a realistic starter plan (organized by week or phase) that I can follow without burning out or overthinking. Be encouraging, clear, and practical.”
